In February, the Day of the Sick is celebrated on the feast of Our Lady of Lourdes (February 11). This year, Pope Francis chose to title his customary message to the sick with the words from the Gospel of Luke: “Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful” (Lk 6:36), reminding us that standing beside those who suffer can truly mean walking a path of charity. So, allowing ourselves to be enlightened by Jesus’ words, let us proceed along the path of mercy toward ourselves and everyone.
Today, while the pain caused by the pandemic is still intense, let us open our hearts, minds, and arms to those around us who need a word, a gesture, help, a little support, and understanding. Together with the Heavenly Physician, let us become bridges of solidarity.
