We open a new year under the gaze of Jesus and Mary. There is no better way to begin the year than to pray with ever greater intensity. There is so much hope in our hearts whenever we prepare to open a new page in our lives. Let us therefore also entrust ourselves to the intercession of the saints we remember this month, giants of holiness: Angela of Foligno, who reached extraordinary mystical heights, and Anthony the Abbot, who left the world, withdrew into the desert, engaged in a fierce struggle against the forces of evil, and became a saint. We also remember Francis de Sales, who emerged from a profound spiritual crisis by entrusting himself to Our Lady and to the infinite goodness of God, to whom he addressed a moving prayer: “Whatever you have decided, Lord… I will love you… at least in this life, if I am not granted to love you in eternal life.” And then John Bosco, who used to say to his young people: “I study for you, I work for you, I live for you, and for you I am even willing to give my life.” A total love that, at the age of 72, despite being exhausted by work, made him say: “I promised God that even my last breath would be for my poor young people.” Let us be guided by the example of these extraordinary saints and allow ourselves to be illuminated by the same light that illuminated their lives.
