Sorrow and reparation prayer: the grave sacrilegious act in Medjugorje

In the early hours of last night, the famous Marian shrine of Medjugorje, where Our Lady has been appearing for more than 45 years to deliver her messages to the world, was the scene of a serious and painful incident of vandalism and desecration. Surveillance cameras and security systems quickly made it possible to identify the person responsible for the act, a foreign national who was promptly stopped and arrested by the local authorities.

Although justice is taking its course on the civil level, from a spiritual point of view the community of pilgrims and devotees of the Queen of Peace gathered around the priests in an atmosphere of deep prayerful reflection.

O Mary, Queen of Peace, Mother of the Church, and refuge of sinners, we come to you with hearts wounded and filled with sadness over the offenses and acts of disrespect committed against your holy name and the blessed places of Medjugorje.
You have invited us many times to prayer, fasting, and conversion, reminding us that miracles can also be obtained through prayer. Hear our supplication of reparation for this grave outrage.
Grant light and forgiveness to the person who committed this act, and transform anger and indignation into a stronger love, capable of forgiving and praying for our brothers and sisters.
Cover us with your immaculate mantle, guard our hearts in the peace of your Son Jesus, and grant that every offense may be overcome by the abundance of your grace.
