The Sacred Heart of Jesus is celebrated on June 16, and this feast is so beautiful and meaningful that Christians are called to devote the entire month of June to meditating on, praying to, and deepening their understanding of the great mystery of the heart of the Son of God.
Devotion to the Sacred Heart began with the revelations to Saint Margaret Mary Alacoque (1647-1690), but even before then, the reality of the heart of Jesus had touched and inspired Christians throughout the ages.

The Bible and the heart of Jesus
In the Bible, in fact, the heart has an important symbolic meaning. Drawing directly on Jewish culture, the heart is not considered merely the seat of feelings but the center of the person, the center from which every choice and decision arises.
Precisely by starting from the Semitic meaning of “heart,” we can enter into the heart of Jesus, the heart from which his mission and his decision to give his life for us arose.
The heart of Jesus can change humanity
The heart is the center of Jesus’ person, the center from which flows that selfless and boundless love capable of dying for us. Only the power of that love can change humanity and every human being.
Indeed, if the selfless love we receive from the people around us can touch us inwardly and bring about changes, just imagine what the love flowing from the heart of Jesus can do if we open the door to him and let him enter!

The heart of Jesus is a school of humanity
Celebrating, meditating on, and praying to the heart of Jesus introduces us to a school of authentic humanity in which the subjects of “power” and “appearance” are not on the curriculum, and the Teacher tells us: «Learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your lives» (Mt 11:29).
In June, we have the opportunity to attend the school of the heart of Jesus, to learn from him what it means to be gentle and humble, and to let ourselves be embraced and transformed by his boundless love.
The heart of Jesus in the human heart
Spending a month with the heart of Jesus means deepening our knowledge, entering into intimacy, and living in close communion. The Gospel can certainly be an excellent starting point for getting to know the heart of Jesus. He, who is the Son of God, if we ask him and make room for him, will perform a true heart transplant, removing from us the heart of stone - closed in resentment, bitterness, and pain - and will give us a heart of flesh like his, capable of love, compassion, forgiveness, gentleness, humility, kindness, generosity, reconciliation…
Living the month of June together with the Sacred Heart of Jesus will make it a month of complete joy!
