Traditionally, the month of July is dedicated to the Most Precious Blood, and the Most Precious Blood immediately brings us back to the great mystery of redemption, to the blood of Jesus shed for the salvation of all. Therefore, in this month, we are also called to rediscover the immense value of life⦠let us discover why.
To speak of blood is to speak of life
βThe Christian feels that his life has been saved by the blood of Christ,β says Pope Francis. Indeed, this is what Jesus did: on Golgotha he shed his blood for us. This sacrifice is renewed in the Eucharist, where the blood of the covenant, βpoured out for manyβ (Mk 14:24), is presented again to the Father and offered by Christ to his brothers as a drink of salvation: βWhoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal lifeβ (Jn 6:54).
Blood, however, should not make us think only of the sacrifice of the Redeemer, but first and foremost of his incarnation and therefore of his humanity. God took on our human nature and, if our life has become His life, after the incarnation our life is called to become His life. Indeed, God wanted to enrich human life with his own life, so that it might become like his: eternal.
Human life is so important, so precious, so wonderful that the Father sent the Son to save every single human life. Because every single human life is a treasure of immeasurable value.

Life is a non-negotiable value
In light of the devotion to the Most Precious Blood, which has centuries of history, today we can allow ourselves to be challenged by how it speaks to us, when it speaks to us, and whether it speaks to us. The month of July can in fact be an opportunity and an invitation to contemplate life in all its aspects: nascent life, dying life, suffering life, life given as a gift, life lived in joy, life loved, life awaited, life rejected⦠life as it is presented to us by the mass media.
What do I think about this? How do I respond? What choices do I make? Precisely because life comes directly from God, we are called to approach it with an attitude of contemplative wonder. Life comes from God, and nothing is worthless in his eyes. Where human beings are inclined to despise and reject, God, on the contrary, values and exalts.
So, let the month of July be the month of life and of life lived to the fullest!
