The Sacred Heart: the school of love

Sacred Heart stained-glass window

When we think of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, what comes to mind?
Perhaps that somewhat “ethereal” image of Jesus holding his heart in his hand, from which a great light radiates.

An image that we probably saw for the first time at our grandmothers’ homes... and so today we might naturally associate devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus with the past, or with an ancient spirituality... “stuff” from the archaeology of Christianity.
And yet, if we summon a little courage, if we shake off our preconceptions and prejudices, we have the chance to come into contact with the pure source of authentic Love.

The Sacred Heart of Jesus: an inexhaustible source of love

God is love, and in the Sacred Heart of Jesus, this love is celebrated through its sign that is most immediately understandable to everyone; who, after all, does not understand that the heart is the source of love?
The heart has always been, and still is, the most expressive symbol of love.
Jesus wanted to reveal his heart to us so that we could see and touch love at its source; through his life given for us, he showed us what it means to love, how far love reaches, and what love is capable of!
Knowing the Sacred Heart means knowing Jesus, “gentle and humble” in heart; it means letting ourselves be drawn into a love story that has lasted for more than 2,000 years; it means discovering that we are loved by a love that never stops, never retreats, and never betrays.

Why turn to the Sacred Heart of Jesus?

That of the Sacred Heart is a true school of love, a school where the Teacher has given, and continues to give, everything of himself for those who follow him.
Attending the school of the Sacred Heart means learning Love, means discovering concretely what God is like, means undergoing a true “heart transplant”: if we attend the school of the Sacred Heart, Jesus will transform our “heart of stone” into a “heart of flesh.” Only then will our hearts truly be free! Free from resentment, anger, fear, sadness, insecurity, bitterness, anguish...
Every day, step by step, beat by beat, our “new” heart of flesh will experience that joy that no one will ever be able to take away. In this way, we will become builders of a fairer, more supportive, more respectful world, capable of generating that happiness that we all carry in our hearts as the one true aspiration of our lives!
