A few days ago, the Holy Father gave a wonderful interview to the Associated Press.
Many topics were touched upon, but the words about homosexuality attracted particular interest and should be read and shared without any exploitation. Pope Francis presented himself as the voice of a Church that welcomes all her children, each with their own difficulties and struggles: “Being homosexual is not a crime. It is not a crime. Yes, but it is a sin. First, let us distinguish between a sin and a crime. It is also a sin to fail to show charity toward one another.”
Francis called it a “sin” when bishops support laws that criminalize homosexuality or discriminate against the gay community. “These bishops must undergo a process of conversion,” he said, adding that they should use “tenderness, please, as God does toward each one of us.”
God loves all his children, including sinners.
Even in the everyday life of the Church and in pastoral work, the Church addresses society’s most urgent issues and becomes the Mother of all her children, without exception.
While rooted in the Church, mercy and love are the best sentiments with which to look upon our brothers and sisters; only in this way will we be capable of offering true welcome and genuine support in their daily and faith lives!
Father Fiorenzo Facchini, a priest and anthropologist, addresses this delicate and urgent topic without trivializing it or approaching it with prejudice in the new publication “Homosexuality and Christian Life”, published by Shalom Publishing House. It is a stimulating, profound yet concise book, close to the facts of everyday life, including wherever educational work is carried out with younger generations: parishes, movements, and associations.
The Author hopes that in these “places,” and especially in the family and at school, people will return to talking about the subject.
The reflection is clear and balanced, rooted in the Church’s Magisterium and enlightened by revealed truth and natural law.
