Every year, on the third Sunday of Ordinary Time, at the express wish of Pope Francis, the Church celebrates the Sunday of the Word of God; an important opportunity to give the Word of God renewed centrality.
This year, 2023, it falls on January 22 and has as its theme an expression taken from the First Letter of John: «We announce to you what we have seen» (1 Jn 1:3). Hence the title given to the day: Proclaimers of the Word!

To help parishes and individual faithful live and celebrate this day, the Dicastery for Evangelization chose Shalom Publishing House to print the official liturgical-pastoral resource.

Indeed, one can proclaim the Word only if one has encountered the risen Jesus; one can proclaim only what one has seen and heard. 
Proclaiming what one has seen means making Jesus and the mystery of his constant presence among us known: a mystery that every Sunday we encounter in the proclamation of the Word and in Eucharistic Communion.
Every Sunday, Christians celebrate the mystery of salvation, thus making present among the community and throughout the world the person of Jesus, the eternal Word of the Father who desires to enter and dwell in the life of each one of us.
Therefore, proclaiming the Word, Jesus Christ, calls us to go toward our brothers and sisters and to bear witness through our lives to the beauty of belonging to God and being with him. 

As part of the journey that the Holy Father Francis asks the entire Church to undertake in preparation for the Jubilee of 2025, the Sunday of the Word becomes a fundamental milestone. 
Revisiting the conciliar constitution Dei Verbum will help us gain a deeper understanding of the Word of God and its central role in the life of the people of God.

Hope, nourished by the Word, leads every community of believers not only to proclaim the faith but also to bear witness to it with simplicity and authenticity.
