The First Communion celebration… in 5 steps

First Communion

For an unforgettable day

Spring has arrived, and for many children the First Communion celebration is approaching. With such an important day in mind, there are countless things to think about, whether you are the ones taking part or simply guests. So we are offering you a guide in a few steps that may help you make this day unforgettable:

1. Think about the clothing and accessories: children usually wear a tunic during the ceremony; girls can also wear a small veil or a headband.

2. Make sure to document every moment: photographs or videos are essential on this day! Whether you choose to rely on a professional photographer or prefer to do it yourself, remember that it will be wonderful over the years to look back on and relive this beautiful and important moment.

3. Planning the kind of celebration you would like to have after the ceremony: a party for a few close friends and family members or a reception extended to relatives and friends? Would you prefer a restaurant, or do you think an outdoor venue would be better, perhaps by contacting a catering service?

4. Favors or keepsakes: favors or a small keepsake from the day are meaningful symbols of the importance of the day that was experienced and shared; it is lovely to offer them to guests!

5. Gift ideas: the priest, catechists, and guests usually give something to the child who has received the sacrament of First Communion. The gift shows their participation and the joy of sharing or, in the case of educators, of the journey undertaken together. Classic First Communion gifts include Gospels, commemorative scrolls of the day… and many other beautiful and meaningful items for which all that remains is to let your imagination run free!
