At the third event in preparation for Sunday of the Word, on January 22, the liturgical-pastoral resource invites us to live the Word of God courageously in our daily lives and recalls the “intimate and necessary relationship that exists between faith and life: faith demands a way of being, particularly in charity.”

The “guiding voice” of the chapter dedicated to this theme is that of Saint Paul, who reminds us in his letters that “with divine help, given to humanity, a certain way of living is made possible: ‘For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them’” (Eph 2:10). The Apostle to the Gentiles strongly calls us to follow Christ, the Word of eternal life, in the Spirit: “I say, then: walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desire of the flesh. For the flesh has desires opposed to the Spirit, and the Spirit has desires opposed to the flesh; these things are opposed to each other, so that you do not do what you would like” (Gal 5:16ff.). The fruits of the Spirit are: “Love, joy, peace, magnanimity, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control” (Gal 5:22ff.; cf. 2 Cor 6:6).”

Saint Paul thus reveals a great and encouraging truth to us: on this daily journey centered on the Word of Jesus, we are not alone at all: the Holy Spirit is our inner teacher and guides us in the footsteps of Christ.
It is by relying on this that Saint Paul can say: “To live in Christ, to exist in Christ”; this means living completely united to Jesus, who is the source and example of our very life.
So let us truly allow every day to be illuminated by the light of the Word; we will feel a new heart blossom within us, increasingly capable of love, joy, peace, and goodness.
