May: at the school of faith of the Virgin Mary

May Devotions

This year, the month of May is packed with events. First of all, we remember the solemnities of the Ascension of the Lord on May 16; Pentecost on May 23; and the Most Holy Trinity on May 30. We also remember several figures who knew how to make their lives fragrant with heaven, such as Saint Rita, Saint Philip Neri, and Blessed Rolando Rivi.
On May 23, with Pentecost, the Easter season comes to an end, and we are invited to meditate on and let the Holy Spirit act in our hearts: by following his voice, his gentle breeze, we will be able to understand that «the Spirit comes to us, with all our differences and miseries, to tell us that we have one Lord, Jesus, one Father, and that for this reason we are brothers and sisters! Let us start again from here» (Pope Francis).
The month of May is also traditionally dedicated by the Church to the Virgin Mary: a sound devotion to the Virgin is an effective means of attaining full knowledge of the Son of God.
To honor Our Lady worthily, let us turn to her with confidence and devote a moment to prayer each day, perhaps discovering or rediscovering the beautiful prayer of the Holy Rosary.
Above all, let us place at the center of our meditation/reflection the fundamental inner attitude of the Blessed Virgin toward God: faith.
Our Lady is the finest teacher at the school of faith, because she always remained trusting, open, and attentive to the supernatural, whatever happened around her.
Mary is the believer who welcomes the Word of God with faith. This is how the Gospel presents her to us: «Mary kept all these things, pondering them in her heart» (Lk 2:19). Let us also try to imitate her, speaking with the Lord, in a loving dialogue, about everything that happens to us, even the most ordinary events.
Her journey of faith, though in a different way, is similar to that of each one of us: there are moments of light, but also moments that are quite dark regarding the divine will. Let us ask her to help us live the circumstances of ordinary life in the light of faith, even in moments of darkness. May she teach us to be completely available to the divine will, even when it is mysterious, even when it often does not correspond to our own will, even when the Lord's words are difficult to understand and seemingly impossible to accept.
If, like Our Lady, we welcome the gift of faith and place all our trust in the Lord, we will live every situation with the joy and peace of God's children.

Looking to Mary, let us ask her to help us live by faith and recognize Jesus present in our lives.

Have a blessed journey!
