Throughout the history of Catholic spirituality, many mystics and saints have had apparitions of souls from Heaven, Purgatory, and sometimes even Hell.
Saint Gregory the Great, Saint Gertrude, Saint Teresa of Ávila, Saint Bridget, Saint Veronica Giuliani, Saint Faustina Kowalska, Saint Gemma Galgani, Saint Pio of Pietrelcina… and many other saints and blesseds have had visions of the souls in Purgatory in particular.
The souls of Purgatory also appeared to Natuzza Evolo, the mystic of Paravati, a simple, almost illiterate, and humble woman, on numerous occasions during her life. The souls of the deceased did not appear to her because she invoked them, but solely by their own will and with divine permission.
Natuzza never acted as an intermediary for requests or questions addressed to the deceased; instead, she always invited everyone to pray to the Lord and have suffrages and Holy Masses celebrated. Her guardian angel always informed her which souls in the afterlife were more or less in need of prayers.
In our time, many devout Christians do not even believe in the existence of Heaven, Purgatory, and Hell. The souls of the deceased reaffirmed their existence to Natuzza; through her visions, the mystic confirmed, if confirmation were ever needed, the Church's teaching about what happens immediately after death: the soul of the deceased is led by its guardian angel before God, who judges its entire life.
The souls in Purgatory asked, through the mystic, for prayers, suffrages, alms, and Holy Masses in order to shorten their punishment.
The numerous accounts of Natuzza's visions found in the book “Natuzza Evolo. A Mother for Everyone” are consistent with the Magisterium and show us what God's infinite mercy and justice mean.
Natuzza's teaching about Purgatory can be very helpful for the salvation of the souls of 21st-century Catholics who are willing to listen to her.
