Sixth reflection of the fourth week of Lent
«In the wounds documented for us by the Shroud, we have seen our healing, salvation from sin; we have been able to measure the love with which we have been loved; with humility of heart, we have recognized that this Jesus was pierced for our transgressions. The Shroud has reminded us that none of us can be a spectator before it, because we have all been baptized in the Blood of crucified Jesus. This is true for us as well: the water of baptism has brought with it the washing of the Blood and the divine gift of the Spirit. This Image has reminded us not only who Jesus Christ has been for us, but also who we are for Jesus Christ. Therefore, the Shroud, a testimony to what Jesus has done for us, invites us in turn to be witnesses: God has given us eternal life in Jesus Christ, his Son, and whoever has the Son has life.
Blessed are you, Lord,
because you gave us in the Shroud
the sign of your love.
Blessed are you because
you have called us to venerate her.
We commit ourselves
to return your love
in faithfulness to the Father
and to our brothers,
and for this we entrust ourselves to Mary
your mother
who saw you crucified
while a sword pierced her soul
and now beholds you in the Kingdom
radiant with glory
to which we too hope to attain.
