Third reflection of the First Week of Lent
In the first week of Lent, we allow ourselves to be challenged by the meditations of Father Bruno Tarantino. Reflections that… cannot leave us indifferent:
PETER
«I don’t know whether the rooster’s crow was meant to awaken guilt in Peter. I don’t know whether it was the ultimate, incontrovertible proof with which to accuse him of high treason. I know only what the Gospels tell me: Peter remembered «and, going outside, he wept» (Lk 22:62). What Peter experienced over the years with Jesus was not wishful thinking. Once again, Jesus shows him that he is Lord of all reality, that he knows it through and through, and that he has compassion for it.
There is time for one last look, before which Peter dissolves his pain in liberating tears. It was all true, Jesus, what we experienced together, if, even in the final moments of your life, you can still look toward me. Your gaze tells me that you already knew everything and, despite this, you loved me and chose me. Now I am ready to let myself be loved completely; now at last I have freed myself from the presumption that I am your savior, from the logic of violence, from the illusion that I can manage the timing and ways of God’s work in the world. Now my life becomes Eucharistic, that is, thanksgiving, for having felt loved, and for having been loved, beyond my limitations and merits, for being loved simply because I exist».
Have I ever looked with mercy upon someone who had hurt me?
I’ll be waiting for you tomorrow morning to continue reflecting together!
