Easter Monday, or Angel Monday, is traditionally associated with an outing.
Shalom - launching a feature dedicated to sanctuaries - suggests a wonderful destination for spending this day: the Monastery and Basilica of Saint Rita in Cascia!
Cascia is a town nestled among the green hills of Umbria, and the Monastery of Santa Rita is one of its gems. It is where Saint Rita lived for forty years as an Augustinian nun. At the monastery, you can visit the “places of Rita”: the cloister, the old choir, the oratory, the Saint’s cell, the rose garden…
At the Basilica, you can also pray near the urn where Saint Rita rests, and the lower Basilica also houses the tomb of Blessed Maria Teresa Fasce, who followed in Saint Rita’s footsteps and helped make her figure famous throughout the world. Blessed Fasce, abbess of the monastery for twenty-seven years, founded the Santa Rita Beehive, a project providing shelter for children from families facing economic or social hardship.
By visiting Saint Rita, patron saint of impossible causes, in her Cascia, you will enjoy an outing that will delight your eyes with the wonders you see and your heart with the heavenly air you breathe!
