Friends of the Lord

The sacred texts of Christianity contain countless figures, protagonists of stories that still show us the paths of faith and hope today. In his homilies and speeches, Francis has selected some of them to make them better known and to offer models of life for believers today. These pages introduce Abraham and Moses, ready to respond trustfully to the Lord’s call; the courageous Judith; the joyful King David; and the prophet Jonah, tempted to flee from his mission. There are Mary, a woman who listens and welcomes; the Magi, attentive to signs and tireless in their search for the light; Joseph, a model of fatherhood; Peter’s fear; and the apostles’ bewilderment in the face of their Master’s death. Reflecting on their stories, Francis invites the faithful to rediscover and embrace the message God entrusted to his people. Author: Pope Francis
