The image depicts “The Good Shepherd,” who leads the flock to the sheepfold and carries the lost sheep on his shoulders. Designed by Genoese sculptor Antonio Vedele, it is the same cross worn by Pope Francis, who gave up his gold cross to wear one representing the “poor.”
