And the Echo Answered

On the road from the small village of Shadbagh to Kabul, a father and two children travel. They are on foot, and their only means of transport is a red cart on which Sabur, the father, has placed his three-year-old daughter, Pari. Sabur has tried in many ways to send his son, Abdullah, back home, but without success. The bond between the two siblings is too strong for the boy to be discouraged. He has decided to accompany them to Kabul, and nothing can make him change his mind, partly because something about the journey troubles him, something unspoken and vaguely threatening that he cannot explain. What happens when they arrive is a rupture that will mark their lives forever. Across generations and continents, in a journey that takes us from Kabul to Paris, from San Francisco to the Greek island of Tinos, Khaled Hosseini explores with great depth the many ways in which people love, hurt, betray, and sacrifice themselves for one another.
