The Saints of the Missal. Gianna Beretta Molla. Her Life, Message

The book offers a lively and fresh portrait of Saint Gianna Beretta Molla, a figure who embodies the “saint next door,” and conveys her message to us. Gianna is a saint of our time: she is a doctor, wife, and mother; she is a woman whose life is very similar to that of each of us. She shines through this “ordinariness,” so much so that her husband Pietro could say: “I did not realize that I had been living beside a saint.” This is possible because everyday life is precious in God’s eyes, and in her it blossomed into the sacrifice of her life out of love for the baby she was carrying in her womb. Gianna teaches us to live our daily lives well; to carry out our tasks faithfully in the place God has assigned to us, discovering that even a day that seems the same as all the others to us is precious, not to be taken for granted, and can be filled with light; to discover “how much that is uncommon and not everyday there is in what is common and everyday!” (Pope Pius XI).
