This book offers a profound look at the life of Saint Óscar Romero. Initially known for his reserved, shy, and insecure personality, he allowed himself to be educated and guided by the poor, recognizing that reality had to be judged and understood from their point of view. Faced with the massacres and injustices tearing El Salvador apart, he found the courage to denounce the abuses of a corrupt government. His commitment to serving God, the Church, and the poor led him to accept the risk of death, even though he admitted that he had no vocation for martyrdom. His work culminated in the celebrated appeal he addressed to the armed forces, when he ordered them, in the name of God, to end the repression. His life came to a tragic end on March 24, 1980: he was assassinated by a sniper while celebrating Mass. Romero not only gave his life for his people, but his testimony continues to teach us how to overcome our fears in the name of a greater love and truth, urging us to be credible witnesses of the Gospel in our time.
