Is it possible to arrive at faith through suffering? And under what conditions? To find answers to these questions, the author, Father Giorgio Maria Faré, uses the category of liminality, that is, of “being on the threshold.” This research takes a transdisciplinary approach, integrating contributions from disciplines such as psychology and philosophy. However, the application of liminality is not limited to the individual. In the second part of the work, liminality is used as a tool to analyze the relationship between the Church and the world. The Church is antithetical to the world: while the latter seeks fulfillment through power, the Church lives in the tension of the “already and not yet,” awaiting her Bridegroom.
