Devotion to the Holy Face of Jesus

Devotion to the Holy Face of Jesus is highly significant because it is the manifestation of God’s infinite love for humanity, embodied in the human features of Jesus. The first part of the text presents the history of devotion to and worship of the Holy Face; it includes a document by Saint John Paul II and a speech by Benedict XVI on the Holy Face, followed by a section dedicated to the medal of the Holy Face of Jesus. It then opens with an extensive section of prayers: prayers to the Holy Face, a novena, invocations, supplications, a hymn, and the Stations of the Cross. The text is enriched by an appendix containing a study on the Holy Face of the Shroud, authored by Manuela Marinelli, and an in-depth exploration of the precious and ancient icon of the Face of Christ, the “Holy Mandylion,” which for centuries was considered an image of the true face of Christ and is kept in the Church of San Bartolomeo degli Armeni in Genoa.
