Eternal Maxims

To say “Eternal Maxims” is like saying “the Book of Saint Alphonsus”! In it, he condenses the substance of his uninterrupted missionary preaching: the reminder of the last things and God’s eternal love. The book, presented as a prayer manual containing texts for liturgical celebrations, devotional practices, reflections, and meditations, was very dear to Saint Alphonsus M. de Liguori, so much so that he distributed it and had it distributed generously. He personally oversaw its revision and reprinting. The meditations on the Passion of Jesus Christ are followed by the meditations on the Eternal Maxims, a true gem of contemplation on God’s mercy toward humanity and nourishment for believers’ trusting hope. In addition to the Christian’s prayers, several pious devotional practices and prayers have been added, preferably drawn from the works of the same Saint. The result is a small manual of meditation and prayer that meets the expectations of many Christians today.
