Prayers during illness

Illness brings suffering, but faith is a balm capable of soothing wounds and opening horizons of hope. Saint James the Apostle exhorts us: “Is anyone among you suffering? Let him pray. Is anyone sick? Let him call for the presbyters of the Church, and let them pray over him. And the prayer made in faith will save the sick person. The fervent prayer of the righteous is very powerful” (Jas 5:13-16). Faithful to this teaching, Father Adriano Scalini has selected a wide range of prayers. Those experiencing illness will find the section of prayers for the sick, while those who see it reflected in others will find countless suggestions in the section of prayers for the sick. In addition, the author offers prayers for every day, the Way of the Cross, and the Rosary. Father Scalini introduces the subject of illness with a brief anthology containing the words of the Popes on the topic, and also presents the lives of several saints, blesseds, and servants of God who experienced illness or devoted themselves to serving the sick with exemplary faith. The prayer of the sick and for the sick is the fruit of a charity that knows no boundaries and of a confident faith that “nothing is impossible for God.”
