Our Lady of Sorrows resin statue. Height 31 cm

Statue of Our Lady of Sorrows, made of resin, a material also suitable for outdoor use, and decorated with acrylic paints, standing 31 cm tall.

Devotion to Our Lady of Sorrows developed from the end of the 11th century, with an early mention of celebrations of her five joys and five sorrows, symbolized by five swords, which anticipated the liturgical celebration established later. When an unknown author wrote "Il Liber de passione Christi et dolore et planctu Matris eius", compositions on the theme of the Lament of the Virgin began.

In the 12th century, also following apparitions of Our Lady, this devotion increased, along with the composition of the Stabat Mater attributed to Jacopone da Todi.
