Lent: a time to savor

Peter

Third reflection of the second week of Lent

In the second week of Lent, we allow ourselves to be challenged by the meditations of Father Lorenzo Baldella. Reflections that… cannot leave us indifferent:

“Then the Lord turned and looked at Peter” (Lk 22:61)
Christians must always place themselves under God’s gaze. They enter into and remain in communion with the Lord during sacramental events, such as the Eucharist and the Sacrament of Reconciliation. But the sacramental event passes, even though its effects remain.

The other way Christians place themselves under the Lord’s gaze is through prayer.
Here they increasingly realize that their life depends on God: they see themselves as poor and discover God, rich and generous; they listen to God’s teachings and inspirations, ask forgiveness, praise, call on God’s help for themselves and others. In prayer, as Christians revisit their personal history, they discover God’s blessings bestowed on them and give thanks.
If Christians stop remaining in God’s presence and under God’s gaze through sacramental events and prayer, they easily forget God and fall at the first temptation. They are imprudent and careless, like Peter.
Unfortunately, there are infidelities and falls along our journey. So it is urgent to place ourselves once again under the teacher’s gaze, like Peter, mourn our fall, and once again affirm our faithfulness to the Lord.”

Do I feel the Lord’s gaze upon me?

I’ll be waiting for you tomorrow morning to continue reflecting together!
