The month of September is packed with occasions through which heaven calls us to lift our eyes and live with our hearts turned toward the things above: it is the month in which the Church invites us to contemplate the mystery of the holy cross, which “is a sign of defeat and a sign of victory,” because through the cross we have been saved, as Pope Francis reminds us (September 14 - Exaltation of the Holy Cross); it is the month in which we raise our prayer to Our Lady of Sorrows, who stands at the foot of the cross, does not flee from suffering, and teaches us to live it as Christians (September 15).
September is also the month of the angels; on the 29th, we remember the holy archangels Michael, Gabriel, and Raphael, as well as many saints of our own time (such as Mother Teresa of Calcutta and Padre Pio), who ceaselessly accompany us with their prayers and example on our journey toward the Kingdom. So let us move forward with confidence, knowing that we are never alone!
