Prayer is the Christian’s breath, a trusting conversation with God, strength amid life’s hardships, and the means to face and overcome temptations. Among the most powerful weapons available to believers is the Rosary. Let us discover together why this ancient and ever-new prayer is capable of effectively fighting against the snares of the evil one.
Let’s start from the beginning
Why is the Immaculate Virgin feared by the devil?
Mary is the only human creature never touched by sin, neither original nor personal sin. The devil cannot stand the Madonna because, despite being immaculate, she always remained free and therefore could have sinned. The devil tremendously hates the Madonna because he was never able to make her commit a personal sin and therefore could not tarnish God’s beauty in her in the slightest. The Holy Virgin therefore possesses nothing that belongs to him: Satan could claim nothing over her, and for this reason Mary is the only creature capable of completely defeating him.

The only creature completely victorious over Satan
Mary is the only creature who completely escaped Satan’s snares, the only one over whom he was never able to exercise his right of conquest, the only one who completely defeated him, both at the moment of her conception and throughout her earthly life. It can therefore be said that Mary is the powerful Virgin against evil, because she is the only human creature who is totally victorious over Satan and his entire army. Evil is therefore completely excluded from her, and this makes her entirely beautiful.
The power of the Rosary
Now let us turn to the Rosary, a powerful weapon for driving away the demon! The devil himself acknowledged this during a famous exorcism in the 1800s; during the exorcism, conducted by several Dominican priests, the devil, speaking about the Virgin, was forced to declare: «God has given Her the power to crush us, and She does so with the Rosary, which He has made powerful. That is why the Rosary is the strongest prayer. It is our scourge, our ruin, our defeat».

In the words of an exorcist
Father Paolo Carlin, an exorcist, highlights the elements that make the Rosary so powerful against the evil one: «First: it is a prayer that expresses veneration and love for the Mother of God, who leads us to Jesus. Honor to the Most Holy Trinity, which is invoked five times within a set of the Rosary; honor to the Father, because the Our Father is recited. Above all, there is an element of reflection connected to the Gospel, incorporated into each mystery of the Rosary. The second element is human. The Rosary is a repetitive, constant prayer, and this brings about genuine transformations. Those who begin the Rosary angry finish it peacefully. And all this harms the demon because it changes and converts hearts».
Mary, the Mother of God and our Mother, is all-beautiful, the one who crushes the head of the ancient serpent, victorious over evil! Let us pray the Rosary every day, contemplate Jesus' life in her company, and allow his victory over the devil to become ours each day as well, so that fear no longer has a place in our lives and we may walk confidently along the paths of the Gospel.
