If you are constantly rushing, if you think spiritual life is a luxury for the few or an escape from the hectic world, this article is for you. We present Blessed Maria Teresa Fasce, a woman who, at the beginning of the last century, through commitment, sacrifice, and offering, changed the face of an entire city.

The inner life is not a luxury but a necessity

We live constantly connected for fear of missing something, but Blessed Fasce teaches us the revolutionary value of disconnecting in order to reconnect with God and with ourselves. Although she was a contemplative soul, eager for silence and solitude, she was extraordinarily practical. For her, it was not about fleeing reality, but about grounding her existence in the Truth.
For Maria Teresa, the fundamental commitment of existence was one alone: “The soul has only one commitment before God: its sanctification. And this depends on the perfect fulfillment of His most holy will”.
This sanctification was not theoretical. While keeping her heart in heaven and her feet on the ground, she led the Monastery of Cascia for 27 years, transforming it into a beacon of spirituality, a place that today, with its Basilica and charitable works, would not exist without her tireless and far-sighted efforts.

The radical commitment that creates value

We often think that holiness is for those who do “great things.” Yet for Blessed Fasce, holiness consisted in “doing small things well”.
To untrained eyes, Mother Fasce might have seemed a great entrepreneur for carrying out immense projects such as the Basilica of Saint Rita and the Saint Rita Beehive (an orphanage for orphaned or disadvantaged girls, whom she called “Bees”). Yet she considered herself only a servant of the Lord. Her practical achievements were simply the fruits of her holiness of life.
Her life was a continuous offering, an exercise in willpower and courage. In an era full of political and bureaucratic difficulties, and despite her natural tendency to assert herself, she governed with humility and prudence, always acting with wisdom and unwavering firmness, fully aware that she was carrying out God’s will.

The cross as a treasure: the joy that no crisis can destroy

What makes life worth living is the ability to transform inevitable suffering into love. Maria Teresa Fasce lived this out heroically. Her “coat of arms” was the cross, and her motto: “Those who love do not fear suffering”.
Maria Teresa lived with serious health problems for almost thirty years: breast cancer, asthma, diabetes, and circulatory problems that caused her excruciating pain. She called the illness “my treasure”: indeed, she saw suffering as a way to become more like the crucified Christ.
This perspective of total faith enabled her to face everything - from the misery of war to slander and bureaucratic difficulties - with a serenity and calm visible to everyone.
It is this total faith that generates true joy, an intimate and inexplicable joy that no bad news or calamity can destroy or make disappear.

The legacy for people today

The life of Blessed Maria Teresa Fasce presents us with a powerful challenge: to be the best version of ourselves.
• Do not fear commitment: Maria Teresa’s perseverance, which led her to spend twelve years just laying the foundation stone of the Sanctuary of Saint Rita of Cascia, reminds you that constancy is the true foundation of every worthwhile undertaking.
• Do not waste your pain: if suffering is inevitable, learn to use it as a path to purifying the heart, offering it with love.
• Live out concrete love: love is not expressed only in words, but by actively working for the good (like the Beehive).

True joy is born when you choose to be the brightest version of yourself, living each day with love, honesty, and depth. And you, what are you building with your life?
