Why not gather from time to time, like the disciples in the Upper Room, and say to one another with joy in our eyes, “truly the Lord is risen”?
This is the inner movement that gives rise to the Way of Light: it is an invitation to open our hearts to hope and prepare ourselves to welcome the newness born of an encounter with the Risen One. Discover more.
Christ is risen, therefore we too shall rise!
The Way of Light begins at the moment when, from the tragic conclusion of the tomb, an explosion of joy springs forth from the announcement of the Resurrection. This announcement spreads from the guards, stunned with fright, and from the women and disciples, caught by surprise and filled with boundless joy. It is precisely this joy, carried to the ends of the earth through the apostles’ words, that has nourished the faith of so many generations, fueled the fervor and courage of the martyrs, and sustained the hope of the poor and the little ones on every continent: Christ is risen, therefore we too shall rise!

Origin and structure
The Way of Light originated in the summer of 1988 within the Salesian Family Movement Witnesses of the Risen One. It was the first celebration centered on the Resurrection. This practice of contemplation was officially recognized by the Church in the Directory on Popular Piety and the Liturgy (no. 153, December 17, 2001). Today more than ever, people need to make the Way of Light their own. This spiritual journey, which arose as the natural culmination of the Way of the Cross, follows a similar structure, with 14 stations. Each station includes a Gospel passage, a commentary or meditation, the recitation of the Our Father, and a brief responsory.

The Way of Light encourages the establishment of a culture of life, open to the expectations of hope and the certainties of faith. During the Easter Season, praying the Way of Light reminds us of Christ’s Resurrection and of our condition as disciples who have passed from the darkness of sin to the light of grace. In a world often shrouded in darkness, the Way of Light invites us to walk as “children of light,” witnesses of the Risen One, and to find light in the faces of the least among us. It is a journey of faith and hope that guides us toward the joy of everlasting life.
