The Holy Rosary is such a powerful weapon for defeating the devil that when it is recited from the heart, the devil is defeated. Father Livio Fanzaga explains that “Mary asks us to pray the Rosary every day to fight Satan; the Rosary is the weapon for victory. It is very important to her because it is possible to defeat sin with the Rosary in hand: a way of telling the devil that we belong to Our Lady. The Rosary is Our Lady’s foremost weapon against Satan because it is a synthesis of the Christian faith. The ten Hail Marys make her intercession and the power of her grace present. Our Lady tells us precisely that the Rosary is a crown of flowers that binds us to Mary.”
Why does the devil suffer when the Rosary is recited?
Simple: he cannot stand the invocation of a creature inferior to him (the devil is a fallen angel who, in an act of pride, rebelled against God), yet stronger than him because she is humble and totally obedient and faithful to the Lord.
There are two elements that make the prayer of the Rosary powerful against Satan. First: “The Rosary is the compendium of the entire Gospel” (Pope Pius XII).
The second element is that the Rosary is a repetitive, constant prayer, and this brings about a transformation of the heart. “Reciting the Rosary means placing Jesus in one’s heart, like Mary did” (Pope Benedict XVI). And all this harms the devil because the Rosary changes and converts hearts.
With the Rosary, anything can be obtained
Saint John Bosco used to say to everyone: «The Rosary is the prayer that Satan fears most. With those Hail Marys, all the demons of Hell can be brought down». But there are countless recommendations from the saints on the effectiveness of the Rosary, through which they encourage us to persevere in praying it every day with faithfulness and perseverance. For example: «The Rosary is a long chain that binds Heaven to earth… with the Rosary, anything can be obtained», said Saint Thérèse of Lisieux; and again: «There is no problem, no matter how difficult, that we cannot solve with the Rosary», in the words of Sister Lucia of Fatima.
Even the devil admits the power of the Rosary
The devil himself reveals the extraordinary power of the Rosary during an exorcism and the devastating effects it has on him: «Each Hail Mary is like a blow to my head; if Christians knew the power of the Rosary, it would be all over for me».
Father Candido Amantini, an exorcist, attests to the power of the Rosary during an exorcism: «We were praying the Rosary when Giovanna, possessed by Satan, snatched the rosary and tore it to pieces, hissing: “You and your old ladies’ devotion!” At that moment Father Candido put a rosary around Giovanna’s neck, and she twisted her neck: “Why are you afraid of old ladies’ devotion?”, Father Candido challenged him. Satan replied, shouting: “It defeats me”».
Let us conclude with the words of Padre Pio: «Do not forget that the prayer of the Holy Rosary is the most powerful spiritual weapon that Heaven has given you, to defeat the evil one and his forces of evil! Never let it go, because it is a powerful armor with which you will have the protection and intercession of Our Lady and my humble intercession… keep this well in mind!».
