Historical background: The ancient pharmacy is located inside the Camaldolese monastery, a monastic order founded by Saint Romuald in the 11th century. This pharmacy is known for its long history and its use of herbs and natural remedies, in keeping with the monastic tradition of care and assistance. The Camaldolese monks, devoted to contemplative life and spiritual pursuits, also played an important role in medicine and botany. Their pharmacy was often stocked with a wide range of medicinal herbs, preparations, and ointments, used both for the well-being of the monks themselves and to assist the surrounding community.
