And Do Not Abandon Us to Temptation

In the Lord’s Prayer, we ask God not to let us succumb, not to fall in times of trial, and also not to give in to the greatest temptation of all: the one that distances us from him. The translation and meaning of the phrase “and do not abandon us to temptation” have been the subject of discussion and debate over the centuries, culminating in the latest version, included in the Roman Missal published in 2021. In this book, Don Achille Morabito traces the history of the text of the Lord’s Prayer, offering an interesting and fruitful way of interpreting this complex passage.
