Giorgio La Pira. Man of God. Aspects of the spirituality of the saintly mayor

In this simple, direct, and effective text, the author offers an original approach to the spirituality of Giorgio La Pira: an extraordinary Christian, a Dominican tertiary faithful to his consecration, mayor of Florence, prophet and builder of peace and unity among peoples, and an outstanding figure of holiness. This lively and gentle man, this “Christian who shocked people,” entered public life without yielding anything to the power of money or losing any of his contemplative temperament. For, as he himself said, “I am not a mayor, just as I am not a member of parliament or an undersecretary. [?] My vocation is one and the same, structural, I would say: despite all the shortcomings and unworthiness one may wish to attribute to me, by the grace of the Lord I am a witness to the Gospel.” Page after page, the secret of Giorgio La Pira emerges - the secret from which the meaning of his entire life and the inspiration for every one of his choices arose: faith in Christ and the surrender of himself to him.
