PORTUGUESE «The Rosary was stronger than the atomic bomb.» On August 6, 1945, the atomic bomb was dropped on Hiroshima. In seconds, the city disintegrated. On that dramatic day, eight Jesuits who lived in the parish house were engulfed by a kind of inferno of fire, smoke, and radiation. Yet none of them was contaminated. The same happened to their house, which remained intact while everything around it was reduced to a pile of rubble. Decades later, there has never been an explanation for why none of these religious men suffered the consequences of the atomic explosion: they continued to live without any health problems. When they were asked for an explanation, their response was astonishing: «We prayed the Rosary every day, so we concluded that praying the Rosary was stronger than the atomic bomb.»
