Saint Joseph. Dignity, privileges, devotions

Many are devoted to Saint Joseph, but few know his role and mission according to the teaching of Pope John Paul II’s apostolic exhortation Redemptoris Custos (Guardian of the Redeemer), which should be regarded as the “magna carta” of the theology of Saint Joseph. This publication is a “Summa Josephina,” that is, a compendium that considers Saint Joseph from three perspectives. The first is his “dignity,” which derives from the mission he carried out in the mystery of the Incarnation and Redemption through the service of fatherhood. The second is his “privileges,” stemming from the exalted dignity of being Jesus’ father and Mary’s husband. Finally, there is devotion, which the people of God express and offer to him in various forms. It is a fascinating journey that enriches theology, spirituality, and devotion.
