The archangel Michael is remembered for defending faith in God against Satan's hordes. Michael, commander of the heavenly armies, is depicted as a warrior; he carries a sword and wears armor with which he defeats Satan, represented as a dragon. In the Catholic liturgical calendar, he is celebrated as "Saint Michael the Archangel" on September 29, together with Saint Gabriel the Archangel and Saint Raphael the Archangel.
