Rita of Cascia was an Italian nun at the Augustinian monastery of Saint Mary Magdalene. The sacramental of blessed roses is associated with devotion to Saint Rita. This devotion is inspired by the legend of the rosebush in her parents' garden, which the saint miraculously caused to bloom in winter while she was ill in the monastery. The ritual, celebrated on May 22, consists of the priest blessing roses presented by devotees, who take the blessed flowers home as a sign of the saint's patronage.
A color statue is also available.
